They say that every picture tells a story, so here are a couple. They also say that a picture tells a thousand words, so rather than around 300 you have here the equivalent of something well over 2,000!
The inaugural Bermuda Championship was concluded earlier this month at the Port Royal Golf Club on that marvellous mid-Atlantic island. I was fortunate to go there and play the course a few times a few years ago. From a financial perspective, Brendon Todd was even more fortunate, given that he wound up being the winner of the $3 million tournament, but I am more than happy with the memories I have…plus the photos, one of which you see here.
The 16th at Port Royal plays to 235 yards from the back tees, although I wasn’t foolish enough to try that!
Starting later today will be the Mayakoba Golf Classic at the El Camaleon club just outside Cancun in Mexico. Last year’s winner was Matt Kuchar – you may recall that unpleasantness when he got into a post-victory spat with his caddie, who worked at the club and was standing in for Kuchar’s regular bag-man. His bonus became the subject of a public dispute between the two men; Kuchar banked nearly $1.3 million for the win but initially felt his guy should only get $5,000 for his work. Anyhow, matters of that high financial level were not in play when I played there a little more recently than in Bermuda but, again, I had a great time.

Incidentally, this year’s purse in Cancun is worth $7.2 million. And this is an off-season event! For sure, PGA Tour players play for extraordinarily handsome prize-money.
